Scrooge: A Christmas Musical Performance
El Sistema Greece welcomes the most festive time of the year and invites you to a musical performance with Mr. Scrooge at the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation, with Jerome Kaluta as narrator.
On Sunday 18 December at 12.30, at the Amphitheater of the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation, the “Kypseli” Orchestra and the El Sistema Greece Youth Choir join forces and “bring to life” Scrooge, a cantata for young voices based on Charles’ Dickens famous Christmas Carols. Our favorite actor and singer Jerome Kaluta will act as narrator in the popular play, which reminds us of all values associated with the Christmas spirit.
The performance is a co-production with Athens 9.84 and will be broadcasted live on the radio station on 98,3 FM by Lilly Karatzaferi.
Miserable and cold-hearted Ebenezer Scrooge believes that Christmas is a fraud. He is suddenly visited by the spirit of his old business partner, who warns him to change his vicious and languid character so that he will not meet the same fate as him. The three ghosts of Christmas – Past, Present and Future – will remind him of his mistakes and make him regret his behavior. Eventually, the avaricious Scrooge who feels no compassion for anyone is transformed into the greatest benefactor of his town and changes forever.
Jerome Kaluta, born and raised in Athens, is an MC, singer, composer and performer who combines his Afro-European musical influences and integrates them into his music production and interpretation, which he characterizes as Urban Soul. He has taken part in unique concerts such as El Sistema Greece’s World A Music in Herodion, in a concert by the world-famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma, in the Painted Black concert in the garden of the Megaron Athens Concert Hall, in the Benaki Museum as part of the Athens Festival, in Melijazz Festival, at the Afrosessions concerts dedicated to legends of African music, at the great celebration of ERT’s Radio Megaron SummERTime and many more.
He has also been loved as an actor through his participation in numerous plays, television series and films. In the theater he has collaborated with well-known Greek directors (Yiannis Kakleas, Dimitra Papadopoulou, Eleni Gasouka, Fokas Evagelinos, etc.), he has participated in the musical Moby Dick by the composer Dimitris Papadimitriou as well as in musical performances by the composer Stamatis Kraounakis and George Theofanous. On television at this time, he plays in the series “Ta Noumera” of the composer Foivos Delivorias, while he has participated in film productions and music documentaries. His discography includes a full-length album entitled “Afrogreco” and several singles, in collaboration with EMI/Universal Greece and Warner Music Greece.
