El Sistema Greece Youth Choir participates in the concert of the famous mezzo Joyce DiDonato at Megaron The Athens Concert Hall on Tuesday 30 May at 20.30. Joyce DiDonato together with the orchestra Il Pomo d’Oro present the project “Eden“, which travels from 2022 to 2024 in 45 cities and 5 continents and is presented for the first time in Greece.

As part of the concert, El Sistema Greece Youth Choir will perform the piece “Seeds of Hope”. This piece is the result of the collective effort of the choir members of the Bishop Ramsey School in London, who participated in an environmental awareness workshop within the framework of Eden. The piece answers the question: “What if trees could sing?”.

70 of our choir members participated in an engagement workshop at EDEN on Saturday 6 May, under the guidance of ITAC teaching artists, Chrysa & Alex Karageorgiou, on the theme “Create Nature”, using recycled materials to create a large mural.

Joyce DiDonato, a three-time Grammy Award winner, takes us on an emotional journey that speaks to the heart of people, seeking to reconnect them with nature. The American mezzo-soprano motivates us to change our attitude towards the planet and proposes to experience a holistic musical experience that extends beyond concert venues. The project “Eden” is a musical journey through four centuries of dreamlike compositions by Francesco Cavalli, Aaron Copland, Christoph Willibald Gluck, Georg Friedrich Haendel, Charles Ives, Gustav Mahler and others.

Joyce DiDonato is accompanied by the Il Pomo d’Oro Orchestra conducted by Maxim Emelyanychev, who also performs the harpsichord parts.

The El Sistema Greece Youth Choir which is an intercultural choir of educational character, offering a unique learning process based on the principles and innovative teaching practices of El Sistema Venezuela, will be with them. Children from all El Sistema Greece nucleus in Attica and Corinth participate in the choir, regardless of their origin, language or religion. The musical preparation of the El Sistema Greece Youth Choir is undertaken by Vagia Papagiannopoulou, who is also responsible for the coordination of the entire choir’s educational program.

The direction is by Marie Lambert-Le Bihan and the lighting is by John Torres.
