Sunday 10 April | 13.00 | Theocharakis Foundation

Free Admission

El Sistema Greece Youth Choir welcomes spring with a unique Easter concert and invites us to the amphitheatre of the V. & M. Theocharakis Foundation on Sunday, April 10 at 13.00 to enjoy a festive program that will take us to different places and times.

The repertoire of the concert features the Congolese Mass Missa Luba, a religious choral work, ideal for promoting interculturality, which is a key objective of El Sistema Greece. It is the most successful of the Masses created in the 1950s and 1960s, which managed to influence a whole generation of Western youth. The work, sung in traditional Congolese styles, is inextricably intertwined with Congolese culture, but managed to link these traditions with the Western mainstream. Parts of the Mass can be heard in films by Pier Paolo Pasolini and Lindsey Anderson, the album cover appears on Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, and even in the 1980s the Clash mentioned Missa Luba in the lyrics of their song “Car Jamming”.

The Mass will be performed in its entirety with percussion and piano accompaniment, and the concert’s diverse program will be enriched with songs from different musical genres, countries and eras, creating an unforgettable choral feast for every audience.
