About El Sistema Greece:
El Sistema Greece offers free, high-quality music education to children and youth across Greece, fostering an inclusive community that celebrates diversity. Inspired by the renowned El Sistema Venezuela, it provides group-based music activities in diverse settings, including refugee facilities, shelters, after-school centers, and its main location in Kypseli, Athens. The program nurtures community, social inclusion, and personal growth through collective music practice, positively impacting students, their families, and society. Since its founding in 2016, over 3,500 young people aged 5-26 have benefited from El Sistema Greece’s initiatives, and have made a lasting impact on their families and wider communities.
Music lessons are provided at El Sistema Greece’s central location in Kipseli, in the Controlled Temporary Accommodation Facilities for Asylum Seekers in Shisto and Corinth, at the Dimitrio Day Center in Moschato in collaboration with the NGO Apostoli, in Alimos in collaboration with Malliaras School, and in Corinth in collaboration with Kaloy Fondation.
El Sistema Greece’s educational approach is inspired by El Sistema in Venezuela, the social program based on the collective music learning practice, founded in 1975 by José Antonio Abreu and adopted by more than 70 countries worldwide since then.
