On Friday, June 28 at 19.30, El Sistema Greece will perform alongside the renowned New York Youth Symphony in a concert to be held at the Amphitheatre Ioannis Despotopoulos of the Athens Conservatoire. Thirty-five talented musicians from El Sistema Greece will join forces with the New York Youth Symphony to open the evening, creating an atmosphere of collaboration and harmony.
The New York Youth Symphony is an award-winning program for young people of its kind in America with a 2023 Grammy Award. It is recognized for its innovative activities and educational programs for talented young musicians. Founded in 1963 as an orchestra to develop talented musicians ages 12-22, its activities have since expanded to include chamber music, conducting, composition, jazz and music-theater songwriting programs with performances at world-class venues such as Carnegie Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Through its First Music program, NYYS has commissioned over 170 works by young and emerging composers since 1984.
Andrew J. Kim began his tenure as Music Director of the NYYS at the start of the 2023/24 season. Mr. Kim is a conductor dedicated to passionate and joyful collaboration. Having had his life transformed by music, he strives to create and share extraordinary musical moments with others and to cultivate a vibrant musical community wherever he goes.
This collaboration aligns with El Sistema Greece’s mission to provide high quality music education and performance and collaboration opportunities to its musicians, and promotes social change through music.
El Sistema Greece is an educational music program for social inclusion that provides high quality free music education to children and youth. Its mission is to build a community centered around music, free from restrictions and discrimination.
