El Sistema Greece returns with an exciting summer concert on Friday 23 June at the Open Theatre of Kolonou as part of the Athens Open Air Film Festival.
The concert is part of the European Project B-ME: Blending Melodies. The B-Me project brought together indigenous composers with musicians from refugee or migrant backgrounds to co-create original musical compositions that bridge different cultural identities. The compositions will be performed live by the partner youth orchestras and will be available to any other orchestra in the world. Through awareness-raising concerts in partner countries and beyond, B-Me aims to highlight the value of cultural diversity.
El Sistema Greece Youth Orchestra will perform pieces by Mario Laginha and Ana Seara from Portugal, Andys Skordis and Kyriaki Iakovidou from Cyprus and Roxani Chatzidimitriou from Greece. The concert will be conducted by Jose Angel Salazar Marin.
The impressive concert will be followed by the screening of the Oscar-winning and timelessly popular film NUOVO CINEMA PARADISO by Giuseppe Tornatore from the Athens Open Air Film Festival.
The Athens Open Air Film Festival was launched in the summer of 2011 with cultural events all over Athens. From June to September, outdoor film screenings are hosted in the city to promote the city and attract residents, visitors and tourists. Unknown gems of the world cinema, classic masterpieces, premieres, short and feature-length screenings of the new Greek cinema and silent films accompanied by live music turn every space into a unique cinematic experience. The capital’s most active festival offers an artistic four months full of passion and love for cinema and art, while all screenings and events are free of charge for the public. The Athens Open Air Film Festival is the biggest cinematic celebration of summer Athens.
